How You See Will Change

A blind guy fights his way to Jesus. He hopes Jesus will help. Some try to stop the man. Jesus knows the guy is coming. As he gets closer Jesus says, ``What do you want me to do?”

“Are you stupid Jesus! He's blind! Fix him!” That's me yelling, the first time I read the story. Everyone and their mother knew he was healing people at that point. “Touch his head or wink your eye... let the guy see!” It’s like Jesus was screwing with folks, asking odd, backwards questions during less than comfortable circumstances. So annoying! Jesus was a genius when it came to getting people to listen. He didn't insist on your attention or have a need for an audience. He simply asked questions. Hoping the answers weren't lost in the miraculous movement of His love. His questions speak to the heart, speak to need, speak to desire. Simply put, they challenge us to get introspective, helping us into a deeper awareness of self. One that ultimately learns to love outside our very selfish veneers. The blind guy is standing there after Jesus’ rather perplexing question and says, “I want to see!” Jesus doesn't touch him, wink or say abracadabra. He says, “You may go. Your eyes are healed because of your faith.” Because of YOUR faith! YOUR faith. Something that's in YOU, not in HIM. In YOU! Do you get it? Jesus is wanting us to consciously breathe into existence what is in us…faith! The ability to be sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see! The blind man's faith led him to litteral love and the question gave him eyes to “see!” I have always wondered how the blind guy described Jesus after that day. Did he tell people what he looked like or did he tell them Jesus stopped long enough to ask how he could love me?
